English football star Chris Smalling was seen on holiday in Vietnam, a break taken after he was passed over for his country’s 2018 World Cup squad.
Southeast Asian football fans were excited when a video of the Manchester United center back kicking a shuttlecock on a Hanoi street while on holiday with his wife was uploaded to Smalling’s verified Instagram account on Wednesday afternoon.
Captioned “Next Stop [Vietnam] street game with the locals,” the video shows the 28-year-old footballer using his feet to juggle the shuttlecock three times before kicking it to his opponent.
His dreams of making it to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, however, took a blow when he lost favor with English national team manager Gareth Southgate after a shaky performance against Scotland last summer.
Smalling had a decent Premier League season with Manchester United this past year, making 45 appearances for the team.
Perhaps he and his wife, Sam Cooke, will find consolation in a bowl of pho as they fill their spare time this summer.
The couple also spent time in Thailand as part of their Southeast Asian tour.
